Roger des Roches

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roger des Roches ( lat. Rogerius de Montibus ; * before 1125, † after 1149) was constable of Antioch .

He was probably the son of a Norman knight at the court of Henry I of England and had come to the principality of Antioch in the wake of Raimund von Poitiers , where Raimund married Princess Konstanze in 1136 . Under Prince Raimund he became constable of Antioch. In the office of constable he appears as a witness in several of his documents, first on April 19, 1140, last on February 1, 1149. Under Raimund's successor, Constance's second husband Rainald , a new constable named Archibald was appointed, who in May 1153 is documented.

Roger had a nephew named Peter, who appears as a witness in a document from Raimund II of Tripoli in 1143 . Radulf des Roches, who is documented as constable of Antioch between 1186 and 1194, was a relative, possibly a descendant of Rogers.
