Roland, Ritter Ungestüm is a Franco-Belgian comic drawn by François Craenhals in a realistic style .

action

The series tells the adventures of the young Roland, who has to assert himself in the world of knights. His quick-tempered manner always gets him into serious trouble. A constant theme is his love for the king's daughter Gwendoline.

background

The retiring editor-in-chief Marcel Dehaye had ordered a series of knights from François Craenhals when Greg took over the chief post at Tintin . Despite initial reservations, the series became an unexpected success. Prince Eisenherz von Hal Foster served as a model . Instead of being published continuously, L'ogre de Worm was published in only four chapters in Tintin. The idea for La fiancée du roi Arthus came from Gérard Dewamme. Another album was being planned, but François Craenhals could no longer start.

The series appeared between 1966 and 1980 in the Belgian and from 1966 to 1986 in the French edition of Tintin and was later released in album form by Casterman . Several short stories were reprinted in Tintin and Super Tintin Spécial. The short stories in Tintin Pocket Sélection were pocket-sized. The series was first published in German in 1973 in the Zack Parade and in 1974 in Zack . Carlsen Verlag published ten albums between 1975 and 1982 . Another four albums were created in 1988 and 1989 by Reiner Feest Verlag. Cross Cult began the complete edition of the series in 2010.
