history

The building and maintenance permit from May 10, 1948 was the starting signal for the Roland Clinic: The former chief physician of the Sebaldsbrück Hospital, Kucklick, founded a clinic with 60 beds on the former barracks on Bremen's Kleine Weser and Werdersee . This capacity was soon increased to 80 beds. The limited partnership was converted into a limited liability company in 1956. Senior physician Bauer, assistant physician Kirchhoff and Mr. Wehrmann took over the existing contracts in the same year and continued to run the house as a clinic. In 1962 the clinic complex went into private ownership and extensive investments were made on and in the buildings in the following years. With the recognition of the non-profit status of the Roland Clinic, the corporate form changed in 1971 into a non-profit company with limited liability. In 1972, the state of Bremen took on the Roland Clinic in hospital planning. The clinic terminated the affiliated doctor contracts and specialized in the three specialist areas of surgery / hand surgery, urology and orthopedics . From 1988 the hospital offered a total of 200 beds through the expansion of the orthopedics department. In order to be able to ensure internal medical care as well, the Roland Clinic extended the cooperation agreement with the Links der Weser central hospital in 1992. In 1993, another operating room was supposed to be put into operation, so the old building was completely renovated in advance. With the establishment of a so-called intermediate care unit, the Roland Clinic created a ward between the normal and intensive care unit in 1996. Patients in need of monitoring could now be monitored more intensively around the clock after the operation. In 2002, the Roland Clinic provided over 100 car parking spaces adjacent to the clinic premises. With the opening of the Clinic for Orthopedics II in 2003, the Roland Clinic expanded its range of services to include shoulder surgery, arthroscopy / micro-invasive operations and sports traumatology . In 2005 the spine center opened. At the same time, the urology department was closed. In the same year, the Roland-Klinik received the contract for hand surgery for Bremen. From this point on, the clinic concentrated its range of treatments on all complaints and diseases of the musculoskeletal system and positioned itself as a competence center in this area. In 2006 four new operating theaters were put into operation. In the same year, the Roland Clinic was also certified by the cooperation for transparency and quality management in hospitals (KTQ) . Recertification followed in 2009 and 2011. The Roland Clinic's outpatient center was opened in 2007. In 2010, the Roland Clinic expanded the existing hospital building with a new building right next to the clinic premises on Werdersee. In addition to the clinic's physiotherapy center, the “activo” movement center has also been home to medical practices, seminar rooms and, since 2011, the vento café. The new building was planned and implemented as a passive house .

The Roland Clinic is a founding member of the Free Clinics Bremen cooperation group (since 2005).
