Roland Brodbeck

Roland Brodbeck (* 1966 ) is a Swiss astrophysicist and Roman author .

Life

Brodbeck studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich . Then, in 1998, he did his doctorate there with the development and testing of a far infrared spectrometer. He then worked in the Geographical Institute at the University of Zurich and in the Zurich Urania observatory until 2005 . Since 2005 he has been teaching at a grammar school . Brodbeck published various popular science articles on astronomical issues. He has also occasionally published articles in "Display", the Swiss lifestyle magazine for gays and friends.

Literary career

Brodbeck has been a writer since 2012. His novels deal with contemporary, historical and utopian topics. In doing so, they take particular account of queer protagonists . His debut novel “Suddenly royal” was published in 2012 by Querverlag. It deals with possible complications if the British heir to the throne were openly gay . In 2014, the novel "The Sieger von Sochi" followed, also in a cross-publisher. The novel describes how a homophobic society deals with an openly gay Olympic champion. In 2016 “Die Regulus” was published by Main Verlag. This is the first part of the SciFi novel series "The Galactic Wave"; the follow-up volume “Arganus” was published in 2020. In the series, Brodbeck formulates scientific findings in an easily understandable manner and combines them with his literary preferences.
