Roland Kießling

Roland Kießling (born July 25, 1962 in Hamburg ) is a German Africanist .

Life

He studied African Studies and Phonetics at the University of Hamburg ( Magister 1988; PhD 1993; Habilitation 2000). From 1990 to 1993 he was a research associate in the DFG project Iraqw texts at Ludwig Gerhardt . Research assistant was from 1993 to 1999 at the Institute for African Studies and Ethiopian Studies, University of Hamburg. The Kurt Hartwig Siemers Prize of the Hamburg Scientific Foundation was awarded to him in 1995. From 2001 to 2006 he was a DFG Heisenberg fellow. He represented Gudrun Miehe from April 15 to October 14, 2003 as a professor at the University of Bayreuth . He represented Bernd Heine on the professorship at the University of Cologne from October 1, 2004 to December 31, 2004. Since October 1, 2006, he has been professor of African Studies at the University of Hamburg.

His focus is on documentation and analysis of African languages; phonetic transcription; Morphosis semantics; Language change; Cushitic languages ​​(esp. South); Nilotic languages ​​(esp. South); Niger-Congo (esp. South Bantoid); ! Xoon (South Khoisan).
