Roland May (born October 9, 1942 ) was a football player in the GDR upper league . In the top division of the GDR football association , he played briefly for Dynamo Dresden and Stahl Riesa .

At the age of 22, May moved from the lower-class company sports association (BSG) Motor in Cossebaude to the region’s football center, the upper division Dynamo Dresden. There he came in the second half of the 1965/66 season for ten games in the league for use. He owed this to the fact that with Steffen Engelmohr and Wolfgang Pfeifer, two defenders had been canceled. Logically, May then also played in the internal defense. He played his first league game on February 26, 1966 in the encounter on the 19th match day between Rot-Weiß Erfurt and Dynamo Dresden (0-0). After all the regular staff were available again, May was transferred back to the second Dynamo team and did not come to the top division in the 1966/67 season. 1967/68 enabled him again the failure of Engelmohr more games in the league. Between the 2nd and 19th matchday he was used nine times in defense. When Dynamo Dresden had to relegate at the end of the season, May was finally eliminated from the first team and until 1970 only played in the second team, which competed in the third-rate district league.

In the 1970/71 season May played for BSG Stahl Riesa again in the top division. However, it was again not enough to become a regular player, because he was only used as a defender in seven league games. After a year, May made another change and now joined the second-rate GDR league club FSV Lok Dresden . There he completed the 1971/72 season and then ended his competitive sports career. In this he had played 26 league games over three seasons. He scored his only major league goal in 1967/68 for Dynamo Dresden.
