Roland Summer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roland Summer (born June 22, 1955 in Feldkirch ) is an Austrian ceramist .

Life

Roland Summer studied architecture at the University of Graz from 1974 to 1980. After graduating, he made the decision to work as a ceramist. In 1985 he founded his own workshop in Velden am Wörther See .

He developed his own technique and does not work on the "fast" potter's wheel, but slowly builds up his ceramics centimeter by centimeter out of himself. The ceramics are not glazed in the classic way, but coated with a separating layer after the biscuit firing, which flakes off after cooling and leaves special traces on the ceramic due to the subsequent reduction in sawdust (smoking).

In 2000 he was involved in the exhibition "Porcelain for Meissen, Max Adolf Pfeiffer in honor", which was carried out in collaboration with the Meissen porcelain factory in Leipzig.

Since 2007 he has been a member of the International Academy of Ceramics AIC.
