Roland Theis

Roland Theis (born March 17, 1980 in Neunkirchen (Saar) ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and was a member of the Saarland state parliament between 2009 and 2017 . Since 2017 he has been State Secretary in the Saarland Ministry of Justice.

After studying law and political science at Saarland University and Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III University , he passed his first state examination in law in 2005 and his assessor examination in 2008 with distinction. He then worked as a lawyer at Landesbank Saar .

The former scholarship holder of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has been a lecturer at Saarland University since 2005, among other things for constitutional and media law. He also teaches public law at the Université de Lorraine in Nancy. From 2005 to 2010 he was state chairman of the Junge Union Saar and from 2005 to 2012 he was also deputy chairman of the International Commission of the JU Germany. He is an alumnus of the Marshall Memorial Fellowship of the German Marshall Fund and the American Jewish Committee .

Roland Theis was a member of the Ottweiler City Council from 1999 and the Neunkirchen District Council from 2004 to 2009. In his home town of Ottweiler, Roland Theis was chairman of the CDU city association until 2018. He has also been a member of Illingen's municipal council since 2014 . In 2014 he became the first Saarlander to be a member of the board of directors of the “Fondation Entente Franco-Allemande” (FEFA). The aim of FEFA is to promote Franco-German relations in the Greater Region. In 2014 he was appointed to the party reform commission “My CDU 2017” of the CDU in Germany.

In 2009 he ran for the first time on the CDU state list for the state parliament and was elected as a member of parliament. In 2012 he was re-elected. Roland Theis was elected General Secretary of the CDU Saarland in November 2010. He was confirmed in this office in November 2014. Since November 2015, Theis was also the parliamentary managing director of the CDU parliamentary group in Saarland. Previously, he held the post of deputy parliamentary group chairman from 2012 to 2015. Theis was re-elected in the state elections in Saarland in 2017 , but had to give up his mandate as State Secretary for Justice and Europe in the Kramp-Karrenbauer III cabinet .

Roland Theis has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Saarland State Development Company since 2018. In the election to the European Parliament, Roland Theis was the top candidate of the CDU Saar, but failed to make it into parliament despite the best result for the CDU.

Roland Theis has been a lecturer at the Université de Lorraine in Nancy since 2020 as part of a diploma course in internal security. As part of the “Business Act Grand Est” project of the Grand Est region and the Grand Est prefecture, Theis was the only political representative from Germany to head the working group on cross-border relations.

He is married and has one daughter.
