Roland Wanek (born July 29, 1959 in Letmathe , now the city of Iserlohn ) is a German hill climb driver . In 2010 he was European Bergmeister of touring cars in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX RS the group N .

Life and work

Roland Wanek grew up in what is now the Iserlohn district of Letmathe in the Sauerland , where he graduated from high school in 1979. He studied at the Iserlohn University of Applied Sciences and was awarded a degree in mechanical engineering in 1986 .

Motorsport

His motorsport career began in 1981 in an Opel Kadett GT / E C-Coupe in the automobile slalom . In 1985 he won the German MOBIL Slalom Cup and in 1986 the ADAC Gaume Championship. In that year he also drove his first hill climb and in 1988 came third in the German Automobile Mountain Trophy. In 1989 he switched to a BMW M3 (E30) and came fourth in the German Slalom Championship. In 1994 he switched to a BMW M3 Coupe 3.0l (E36) and in 1996 began taking part in individual races of the European Hill Climb Championship .

In 1997 he switched to a BMW M3 3.2l (E36) and between 1998 and 2002 achieved third to fifth placings in the European Hill Climb Championship several times. From 2003 to 2007 he only took part in mountain races and slaloms sporadically.

In 2008, with the help of the company IMPORTRACING from Beilstein, he built a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX RS, with which he was able to achieve fifth place in the European Hill Climb Championship in 2009. In 2010 it was enough to win the title, although the championship decision remained open until the last race of the last race.

National successes on the mountain

In 1988 he achieved third place in the then ONS mountain trophy for touring cars in an Opel Kadett GT / E C-Coupe. In 2017 the third place in the DMSB German Mountain Championship was achieved again. In 2017 he always started in a Mitsubishi EVO 9, the same car as in the EBM. The car is now being looked after by the company " Just Solutions " in 35625 Hüttenberg (Hessen) .
