Rolando Arjona Amábilis

Rolando Arjona Amábilis (born March 21, 1920 in Mérida ; † September 26, 2014 ) was a Mexican painter, sculptor , photographer and heraldic artist . He designed the coat of arms of the state of Sinaloa and some of the municipalities there , and was director and professor of the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" .

biography

Rolando Arjona, son of Manuel Arjona Correa and his wife Nerí Amabilis Cámara, attended elementary school (Primaria) and secondary school (Secundaria) in Mérida, as well as the art school (Escuela de Bellas) founded by General Salvador Alvarado in Paseo de Montejo Artes) and then the Escuela Popular de Arte of Yucatán before moving to Mexico City in 1938 . Here he worked and taught at "La Esmeralda" , which he later also directed. Arjona, who is among other things a representative of the murals , became known through international exhibitions and was often referred to as the "pilgrim of painting" (Peregrino de la Pintura). One of his well-known murals, that of the goddess of fertility (“La Diosa de la Fertilidad”), is located in the Revolution Park (Parque Revolución) of the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa . Many of his works are surrealist and expressionistic . Since 2004 he lived in Cancún .
