Rolf-Dietrich Keil (born January 8, 1923 in Berlin ; † December 17, 2018 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German Slavist , translator and author .

Life

From 1945 to 1950, Keil was a prisoner of war in the Soviet Union . Back home, he completed a degree in Slavic Studies in Bonn. In 1954, Keil was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1955 he accompanied Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer as an interpreter on his trip to Moscow. From 1955 to 1962 he was a lecturer at the University of Hamburg , from 1962 to 1974 he was head of the Eastern teaching department of the Bundeswehr language school . From 1974 to 1988 he was a professor at the University of Bonn .

Keil was co-founder and from 1987 to 2003 chairman of the German Pushkin Society. Until his death he was its honorary chairman.

  • 2000 Honorary Doctorate from the Russian Academy of Sciences , awarded by the Literature and Language class on June 13, 2000.
  • 2002 Awarded the state Pushkin medal "For a great contribution to the study and preservation of the cultural heritage, to the rapprochement and mutual enrichment of the cultures of the peoples of the Russian Federation and the Federal Republic of Germany" by Ukaz of the President of the Russian Federation Putin from 3. April 2002.
