Rolf Böttcher (diplomat)

Rolf Böttcher (* 1935 ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to the Republic of Finland .

Life

Böttcher studied foreign policy from 1957 to 1959 at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg and graduated in 1959 with a degree in political science.

Since 1959 he was an employee in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). In 1959/60 Böttcher was attaché , from 1963 to 1966 and from 1969 to 1972 third, then second and finally first secretary at the GDR commercial agency in Helsinki . Between 1973 and 1975 he completed additional studies at the Diplomatic Academy in Moscow . From 1975 to 1978 Böttcher served as counselor at the embassy of the GDR in Helsinki. Between 1978 and 1981 he worked as a sector manager at the MfAA. From 1981 to 1986 he was Counselor and Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy in the Republic of Iceland . From 1987 to 1990 he was the GDR's ambassador in Helsinki.
