Rolf Bolwin

Rolf Bolwin (born July 5, 1950 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German lawyer and was the managing director of the German Stage Association for 25 years .

Life

Rolf Bolwin studied law, political science and history at the University of Bonn and initially worked as a lawyer in Bonn. From 1982 to 1991 he worked in the legal department of Deutschlandfunk in Cologne, most recently as head of the legal department. At that time, his areas of expertise included copyright and labor and collective bargaining law .

From January 1, 1992 to December 31, 2016, he was Managing Director and Chairman of the German Stage Association. In this role, Rolf Bolwin played a key role on the employer's side in shaping the collective bargaining agreements for the artistic staff of the theaters and orchestras. He successfully brought the reform of these collective agreements and the set of rules concluded with the Verband Deutscher Bühnen- und Medienverlage, which regulates the performance rights of theaters, to a conclusion. With numerous publications he has also participated in the public debate about the future structure of state and city theaters in recent years. Bolwin is one of the initiators of the German Theater Prize DER FAUST , together with the former presidents of the German Stage Association Jürgen Flimm and Klaus Zehelein . In 2014, at his instigation, the artistic diversity of the German theater and orchestra landscape was included in the German list of intangible cultural heritage . Bolwin is also committed to culture at the European level, above all in the employer organization for theaters and orchestras, PEARLE *, where he was last re-elected as its president for two years in 2015. Since January 1, 2017, Rolf Bolwin has continued to work in the field of culture as a journalist, politician and, also as a lawyer, in an advisory capacity. He is also the editor of the commentary on stage and orchestral law published by Decker-Verlag and has various teaching assignments.
