Rolf Ludwig (statistician)

Rolf Ludwig (born October 25, 1937 in Herwigsdorf , Oberlausitz) is a German mathematician and statistician .

Career

Rolf Ludwig passed the Abitur at the Geschwister-Scholl-Oberschule in Löbau in 1955 and then began studying at the Karl-Marx-Universität Leipzig for higher teaching, mathematics as a major (among others with Felix Burkhardt , Herbert Beckert , Ernst Hölder and Hans Salie), as well as physics (with Waldemar Ilberg ) as a second subject. In 1959 he completed his studies with the state examination for the teaching post for mathematics and physics. From 1959 to 1961 he worked as a teacher for mathematics, physics and astronomy at the polytechnic high school in Loop .

In 1961, Felix Burkhardt brought him to the Institute for Mathematical Statistics at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig as a research assistant. In 1964 the doctorate A to Dr. rer. nat. with the work "Selection of performance-determining factors in sport". In 1966, Ludwig started working at the newly founded Central Institute for Youth Research in Leipzig, where he set up the Statistics and Information Processing Department, of which he was head until the institute was closed in 1990. In 1975 Ludwig received his doctorate as Dr. phil. with the work “On the theory and practice of developing and using the programmed course“ Statistics for Research and Work ”: a contribution to the rationalization and intensification of adult education”.

In 1981 he was appointed honorary lecturer for educational sociology and in 1987 honorary professor for methodology of science at the Magdeburg University of Education. From 1991 to 1993 he worked as a research assistant at the German Youth Institute in Munich , Leipzig branch and was jointly responsible for the preparation and transfer of the numerous empirical studies of the Central Institute for Youth Research to the central archive in Cologne. From 1991 to 2003 he was responsible for the training of students in the areas of "statistical methods" and computer science at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Leipzig. Ludwig has been the owner of Datenservice-Ludwig since 2000. Here he is primarily concerned with advising doctoral students in the fields of medicine, sociology, psychology, etc. a. on questions of statistical evaluation.

He is married and has two children.
