Christopher Thomas James Chessun (born August 5, 1956 in London ) is a British Anglican clergyman. He has been Bishop of Southwark in the Church of England since January 2011 . The Diocese of Southwark is in the Province of Canterbury and comprises the southern part of Greater London and the eastern part of Surrey .

Chessun studied at University College in Oxford and was founded in 1984 as a priest ordained . After two appointments as a curate , an office as chaplain at London's St Paul's Cathedral and two other ecclesiastical offices in the greater London area, he was ordained Bishop of Woolwich in 2005 . His appointment as Bishop of Southwark was sustained in St Mary-le-Bow's Church on January 17, 2011, and he was installed to succeed Bishop Tom Butler on March 6, 2011 at Southwark Cathedral .

A controversy arose in the spring of 2012 when he appointed seven Liberal Catholic priests in his diocese and some prominent members of the clergy subsequently called for his resignation.

On November 11, 2014, Christopher Chessun was inducted into the House of Lords as Ecclesiastical Lord in his capacity as Bishop of Southwark .
