Rolf Müller (born June 24, 1939 in Wuppertal ) is a former German soccer player and coach .

career

For many years Rolf Müller played for Wuppertaler SV in the first-class Oberliga West and later in the second-class Regionalliga West . With the Wuppertal team, the tough defender was runner-up behind Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the 2nd League West in 1962 , making it possible to get promoted to the last league season before the Bundesliga was introduced. Rolf Müller also reached the semi-finals of the DFB Cup with the WSV in 1963, but lost 1-0 to the eventual cup winner Hamburger SV around Uwe Seeler in the overcrowded stadium at the zoo in front of almost 40,000 spectators . After relegation to the upper league, Müller celebrated with the Wuppertalers in the first regional league season 1963/64 the runner-up behind Alemannia Aachen and the qualification for the Bundesliga promotion round.

After his active career, Müller worked for many years as a trainer and was mainly active in the Oberliga Nordrhein . He was in charge of FV Bad Honnef (1981/82) and 1. FC Bocholt from 1982 to 1985 . With 1. FC Bocholt, Rolf Müller was Niederrhein Cup winner in 1983 , league champion in 1984 and reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup in 1983/84 against FC Bayern Munich . In the 1985/86 season he took over as coach from Eckhard Krautzun at the second division club SG Union Solingen in October . Rolf Müller was head coach at his home club Wuppertaler SV three times, in 1979/80 (in the 2nd Bundesliga ), 1980/81 and 1986 to 1989 in the Oberliga Nordrhein, where he reached 3rd place three times with the WSV.
