Rolf Schassberger

Rolf Schassberger , also Schaßberger, (born November 28, 1939 ; † March 10, 2018 ) was a German mathematician and university professor.

Schassberger received his doctorate in 1967 with Walter Knödel at the University of Stuttgart on a topic from queuing theory . He then moved to the University of Calgary as an Associate Professor . In 1978 he accepted a professorship at the Technical University of Berlin before going to the Technical University of Braunschweig in 1988 . There he headed the Institute for Mathematical Stochastics until his retirement in 2004 and held various positions such as B. active as dean or vice-president.

Schassberger has had a decisive influence on modern queuing theory, especially with his work on queues with multiple operators and the operating discipline processor sharing. He was co-founder and from 1986 to 1996 co-editor of the leading trade journal Queuing Systems , where he has published numerous much-cited articles.
