Rolf Vogel (mining engineer)

Rolf Vogel (born August 27, 1922 in Chemnitz ; † February 8, 2017 in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. ) Was a German mining engineer and works director .

Live and act

Vogel began his career as a miner in the Lugau-Oelsnitz coalfield in 1945 . In 1946 he took a degree at the Bergakademie Freiberg that he graduated in 1951 as a qualified mining engineer. Subsequently, he took on various management positions in the coal mining industry. In 1963 he became works director at the Karl Liebknecht hard coal works .

After 1990 Vogel campaigned for the preservation of the former daytime facilities as a mining museum as well as for the preservation and transmission of mining traditions, especially in the miners' community of the Lugau-Oelsnitz coal mine. Vogel wrote the standard work on the Lugau-Oelsnitzer coal field.
