Rolf Weber (born December 23, 1953 in Bamme ) is a former football player in the GDR upper league . There he played for 1. FC Union Berlin from 1970 to 1980 .

Athletic career

Weber started playing soccer at the BSG unit in his hometown of Bamme. In 1968 he moved to BSG Motor in the district town of Rathenow . At the age of 16, he joined 1. FC Union Berlin in 1970. There he first played in the junior league. In 1972 Weber was the only Union youngster to make the leap into the league team. He made his debut in the league on September 30, 1972 in the game BFC Dynamo - 1. FC Union (1: 2) as a central defender. In his first league season he played 18 of the 26 played point games in various positions in the defense area. The season ended, however, with the descent of the Unioners, so that Weber was in the second-rate GDR league until 1976had to play. In these three seasons he was used in 60 of 66 point games, plus 23 games in the promotion rounds. In the promotion round 1976 the 1. FC Union was able to successfully prevail and rose again to the top division. In his second league season in 1976/77 Weber was the standard pre-stopper and played all point games. However, he lost this status in the following two years, because 1977/78 and 1978/79 he came in the league only in fifteen and nine point games for use. Weber played his last league season in 1979/80, in which he regained a regular place as a pre-stopper with 24 stakes.

In May 1980 Weber was drafted into military service for half a year. In the spring of 1981 he was available again for 1. FC Union, which now played in the GDR league again after being relegated in 1980. Weber completed four league point games and was in all eight promotion games to the league. The final game for the 1st team of 1. FC Union Weber played on June 20, 1981 in the promotion round match Union - Motor Suhl (7: 1). Union missed promotion, and although Weber was nominated again for the GDR league team for the 1981/82 season, he was only used in the Unioner's district league team . At the beginning of the 1982/83 season he moved to the GDR league club BSG KWO Berlin , with whom, however, after a year he was relegated to the third-class Berlin district league. There he ended his competitive sports career in 1986, but remained KWO team leader for a few years.

During his time at 1. FC Union Berlin, Rolf Weber played 205 competitive games, including 93 point games in the GDR major league and 18 games in the GDR-wide cup competition ( FDGB cup ). In total, he scored seven competitive goals as a defensive player, two of them in league games.
