Romain Amalfitano (born August 27, 1989 in Nice ) is a French football player . The midfielder is the brother of French international Morgan Amalfitano .

Athletic career

Amalfitano comes from the youth of the LB Châteauroux . In 2009 he left the club and joined the third division club FC Évian Thonon Gaillard . With his new club, in which the former French internationals Zinédine Zidane , Bixente Lizarazu and Alain Boghossian are involved, he rose to Ligue 2 at the end of the season . After the end of his contract, however, he turned his back on the club and moved to the second-rate league competitor Stade Reims , where he signed a two-year contract.

In the preparation for the season he was still a substitute player, in the 2010/11 season Amalfitano was in the starting line-up in Ligue 2 for the first time on matchday 2. After that, he lost his regular position on matchday 11 and fluctuated between starting line-up and bench in the further course of the season. At the end of the season there were 32 season games and tenth place in the table. In the following season he was temporarily slowed down by injuries. Nevertheless, he drew attention to himself with his sprints and crucial passes outside the country's borders. From July 2012, the free transfer player is under contract for three years with the English club Newcastle United , which is coached by Alan Pardew .
