Roman Candio (born January 22, 1935 in Murgenthal AG), entitled to live in Zihlschlacht-Sitterdorf, is a Swiss painter .

Life

Roman Candio grew up in Fulenbach , 10 km southwest of Olten . An early influence was the drawing lessons with the color theorist Jacob Weder in Langenthal. He first attended the teacher training college and worked as a primary school teacher until 1958, when he decided to pursue a career as an artist. From 1958 to 1959 he attended classes from Werner Andermatt at the Lucerne School of Applied Arts . From 1959 to 1960 he was a student of Georg Meistermann at the Düsseldorf State Art Academy . Then he helped the church painter Ferdinand Gehr with the execution of large wall and ceiling paintings. After studying in Italy, he settled in Solothurn in 1961 .

In addition to the free works, over 50 works have been created in public spaces since the mid-1960s: colored windows, wall and ceiling paintings, tapestries and wall reliefs for churches, hospitals, administration buildings and schools. In 1968 Candio received the Solothurn canton sponsorship award. Since 1970 he has mainly been painting flowers and landscapes. In 1988, 1993 and 2005 he exhibited at the Solothurn Art Museum . In 1991 he received the Art Prize of the Canton of Solothurn for his painterly work and for his work in the field of art in architecture .
