Roman Rupp (born January 25, 1964 in St. Andrä , Carinthia ) is a former Austrian ski racer . The downhill specialist achieved a podium in the Ski World Cup and took part in the 1989 World Cup.

biography

Rupp joined the Carinthian regional team at the end of the 1970s and a few years later the Austrian Ski Association . In 1983 he made his first appearance in the World Cup . But he did not reach the points for the time being, partly because he had to fight injuries again and again. He achieved greater success in the European Cup when he finished second in the downhill classification in the 1984/85 season, tied with Swiss Luc Genolet .

Rupp scored his first World Cup points on January 25, 1987 on the Streif in Kitzbühel . After that, he did not make it into the top 15 again for two years before, on January 13, 1989, also on the Kitzbüheler Streif, he completely surprisingly finished third with the high starting number 43. This result, which was also his best World Cup result, was his only one in the points this winter, but it enabled the Carinthian to take part in the 1989 World Cup in Vail , where he finished ninth.

In the 1989/90 season , Rupp came under the fastest 15 times five times. His best results were sixth places in Kitzbühel and Val-d'Isère . This brought him to ninth place in the Downhill World Cup. Due to an injury, however, he could not contest any races in the entire following winter. The "comeback season" 1991/92 was extremely disappointing. His best placement was only a 30th place on the Lauberhorn in Wengen . Rupp lost the squad and then ended his career. Today he lives and works as a masseur in Wolfsberg ( Carinthia ).
