Roman Vladimirovich Manekin

Roman Wladimirowitsch Manekin ( Russian Роман Владимирович Манекин ; born June 6, 1965 in Makijiwka , Donetsk Oblast , Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic , Soviet Union ) is a Russian - Ukrainian journalist, publicist and historian.

Life

Manekin was born the son of Nelja Mikhailovna Manekina , a university professor at the Donetsk National University, and Vladimir Ivanovich Manekin , a lawyer and teacher at the Donetsk Police School . In 1989 he graduated from Donetsk National University with honors after completing his military service while studying . He then studied at the Lomonosov University in Moscow and later became a research assistant there.

Manekin was a 1992 scholarship holder of the Open Society Foundations of billionaire George Soros .

Since 2000, Manekin has been the head of the Donetsk City Council Representation to the Russian Federation. He is the author of books and articles about Russia and Ukraine and their often disturbed relationship with one another. He takes part in radio and television broadcasts and in discussions in these media, for example with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych .

Manekin was a member of the Institute for World History at the Russian Academy of Sciences and sits on the expert council of the internet network kreml.org

Manekin lives in Moscow.
