Romanas Arlauskas

Romanas Arlauskas (born June 11, 1917 in Kaunas , † September 22, 2009 in Adelaide , Australia ) was a Lithuanian , later Australian chess player. In 1936 he played at the unofficial Chess Olympiad Chess Olympia 1936 in Munich on the sixth board of the Lithuanian team. In 1944 Arlauskas fled to Germany, from there he emigrated to Australia in 1948. In 1949 he became South Australian champion. Before his emigration, Arlauskas was only active in local chess (and reached his highest historical rating of 2525 in February 1946 ), after which he mainly played correspondence chess . In 1965 he became correspondence chess grandmaster. In 1965 he finished 3rd in the fourth world championship in correspondence chess.
