Romance No. 1

The Romance no. 1 is a composition by Johann Strauss II (op. 243). It was performed for the first time between May and October 1860 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

The work was written in 1860 during the composer's trip to Russia. The exact date of the premiere is not known. The cello and harp play a major role in the romance. The work was dedicated to Ekaterine Dadiani, Princess of Mingrelia (1816–1882). The first performance of Romance No. 1 in Vienna took place on December 1, 1860 in the dance hall Zum Sperl at the same time as the performance of Romance No. 2 .
