Drums

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The drumming is a custom in the Düren area during Weiberfastnacht . Children are given sweets for their singing, so it is a so-called prey .

procedure

On Weiberfastnacht, children in disguise go from house to house, usually after school ends, and sing a rhyme in Dürener Platt against the gift of sweets :

Ahl Möhn ,
joot Möhn,
jävv ons jätt en de Rommelspott,
sons jon mer net vun dä door fott!

Standard German:
Old woman,
good woman,
give us something in the drumstick,
otherwise we won't leave the door!

history

Mardi Gras customs have been documented in the Rhineland since the 15th century, using a noise instrument called Rommelspott . Drums or Rummeln is the older term for make noise or make noise .
