Ron Johnson

Ronald B. "Ron" Johnson (* 1959 ) is an American businessman . Between 2000 and 2011 he headed the retail division of Apple and was CEO of the department store chain JC Penney from 2011 to 2013 .

He received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard University .

Johnson initially worked for the US retail chain Target for 16 years , where he was most recently Senior Merchandising Executive .

In January 2000, he moved to Apple , where he organized the establishment of a company's own retail presence. By 2011, around 350 Apple retail stores had opened in 11 countries worldwide . These embody an unusual concept in which great importance is attached to the interaction of visitors with the products. In order to implement this, almost only functioning products are exhibited that can be used by customers; There are no shelves and similar elements typical of other stores. This concept is seen as a key reason for the success of Apple retail stores.

In June 2011, the US department store chain JC Penney announced that Ron Johnson would take over the position of CEO from November 1, 2011 . Johnson described it as his dream of "running a large retail chain, reinventing it". In the spring of 2013, it was announced that Johnson was fired at JC Penney after his strategy failed to produce commercial success.
