Ronald Jenkins

Ronald Stewart Jenkins (born December 8, 1907 in Sutton / Surrey , † December 27, 1975 in London ) was an English engineer.

Jenkins studied engineering at the City & Guilds School in London from 1928 to 1931 . He later worked with Oscar Faber and met Ove Arup . Since he valued his analytical skills, Arup invited Jenkins to work with his company Arup . Jenkins made special use of the methods of applied mathematics and mechanics for structural engineering . Together with Arup, he designed the Mulberry ports during the Second World War . He did special work in the field of spherical and cylinder shells as well as prestressed concrete construction . He worked, for example, in the construction of the shell roofs for the printing house of the Bank of England (London), the concrete dome of Smithfield Market (London) and the polygonal shell roof for the rubber factory in Brynmawr in Wales . In addition, he also worked on the shell roofs of the Sydney Opera House .
