Ronaldo Puno

Ronaldo Villanueva Puno (born April 25, 1948 in Manila ) is a Filipino politician .

biography

His father Ricardo Puno was Minister of Justice from 1979 to 1984 and a member of the Congress (Batasang Pambansa) from 1984 to 1986 .

After attending the Elementary School of the Ateneo de Manila University and the high school of the Manuel L. Quezon University , he studied political science at the Ateneo de Manila University from 1964 to 1968, completing it with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Political Science).

After completing his studies, he entered the private sector and was initially an administrative employee at Rubicon Inc., the administrative company of Philippine Airlines and then from August 1969 to June 1972 President of Investment Services Inc. During this time, he was also the founder of the Metropolitan Stock Exchange in 1970 Inc. and from July 1971 to June 1974 President of Alpha Electrosystems Inc.

He then went into civil service in July 1974 and until May 1982 was assistant to the minister (assistant secretary) for a time as program director for the barangays and senior administrative assistant in the office of the minister for local government and community development (DLGCD) . In this he was also head of the audit department from 1975 to 1976.

Between May 1982 and June 1986 he was assistant to the Ministry of Transportation and Communication (DTC). At the same time he was Deputy Minister for Media Affairs from January to February 1986 in the last weeks of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos' term of office .

He then returned to the private sector and between 1986 and 1998 was President of Micron Overseas Marketing Inc., a subsidiary of Micron Technology , and between 1989 and 1991 political advisor to Black, Manafort, Stone & Kelly and between 1990 and 1992 advisor to Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), the largest publicly traded company in the Philippines . He was also an advisor to Micron Public Affairs Co. from 1991 to 1998 and Chairman of the Board of Broadcast City from July 1992 to April 1993.

In 1998 he was initially brief chairman of the Local Autonomy Movement of the Philippines Inc., before he was initially under-secretary in the Ministry of Interior and Local Government from July 1998 to April 1999.

In April 1999, President Joseph Estrada himself appointed him Secretary of Interior and Local Government and was a member of his cabinet until January 2000.

He then returned to the private sector, becoming not only chairman of North River Mountain Ranch and the Micron Public Affairs Company in 2000, but also chairman of Pacific Sunrise International Holdings Inc. in 2001.

In 2004 he was elected a member of the House of Representatives of the Philippines , where he represented the interests of constituency I (1st District) of Antipolo City until 2006 as chairman of the KAMPI party (Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino) . He was succeeded in this constituency in the 2007 congressional elections, Roberto Puno .

On February 5, 2006, he was reappointed to a government by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as Minister of the Interior and Local Government and has been a member of its cabinet ever since.
