Ronaldo de Carvalho

Ronaldo de Carvalho (born May 16, 1893 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil , † February 15, 1935 there ) was a Brazilian poet and diplomat. He was particularly important as one of the first co-editors of the legendary literary magazine Orpheu .

Life

Carvalho was born the son of the shipbuilding engineer Artur Augusto de Carvalho and came from the Brazilian bourgeoisie. He has been writing poetry regularly since he was twelve. The precocious boy first attended the Colegio Abilio in Rio de Janeiro in his regular school years from 1899 to 1907 , and from 1907 to 1912 he studied law at the Faculdade Livre de Ciencia Judicarias in Rio de Janeiro. In 1913 he continued his studies in Paris , where he studied sociology and philosophy until 1914 . He then went to the diplomatic service in Lisbon in 1914 , where he was co-editor of Orpheu . His literature was shaped by models like Charles Baudelaire and Paul Verlaine , by symbolism . and parnassism. He was an important representative of literary modernism in Brazil.

In 1912 he published his first volume of poetry. He also wrote for various newspapers, such as A Epoca and Diario de Noticias . Ronald de Carvalho died in a car accident in 1935. A street on Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro is named after the poet.

Work for Orpheu

Ronaldo de Carvalho was Orpheu's sub-editor in charge of the Brazilian market. In the first issue of the magazine he was also represented with poems and became known in both countries.
