The Roofensee is located in the Oberhavel district in the north of Brandenburg , just under 6 km from the state border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . With its elongated shape in northwest-southeast direction, it covers an area of 0.56 km² and is up to 19 m deep. The Roofensee is part of the Stechlin nature reserve . It lies in the area of the municipality of Stechlin and borders with its southeastern end on the district of Menz .
A 6 km long circular path leads around the lake. The moor adventure path, which is twice as long at 12 km and which also leads into the forest area surrounding the lake, also runs over part of this path. It contains five stations, some of which are handicapped accessible, some of which were completed in 2007. The moor adventure trail was opened in its entirety on June 26, 2008.
The Roofensee is connected to other bodies of water via the Polzow Canal , in the east with the Kleiner and Großer Wentowsee and then with the Havel , in the west with the Nehmitzsee and then the Großer Stechlinsee .
