The Große Wentowsee is a natural lake in the north of the state of Brandenburg . It belongs partly to the city of Gransee (districts Seilershof and Dannenwalde ) and the rest to the city of Fürstenberg / Havel (district Tornow ). The towns of Dannenwalde, Ringsleben , Tornow, Marienthal , Zabelsdorf and Wentow lie on its banks .
The Große Wentowsee is a lime-rich, unstratified lake in the northeast of the natural area of the Granseer Platte . Its water level is at a height of 47.5 m above sea level. HN . It has an area of 279 ha and a maximum depth of 4 m. The effective width is 3650 m, the effective length 960 m. The islands of the Raatz and Schönwerder as well as another island are located in the lake. The Große Wentowsee has a catchment area of 21,300 hectares. In the west, the tributary comes from the Kleiner Wentowsee , via which there is a connection with the Polzow Canal . In addition, several ditches flow into the Großer Wentowsee, including the Alte Siebgraben and the Grenzbek from the north. In the east, the Tornow River forms the natural runoff to the Havel . In addition, the Wentow Canal with the Marienthal lock connects the Großer Wentowsee with the Havel. An indirect runoff to the Havel takes place via the Piepergraben towards the southeast.
Until 1950, the Große Wentowsee formed the border between the state of Mecklenburg ( Fürstenberger Werder ) and the state of Brandenburg . Together with the Kleiner Wentowsee and the Wentow Canal, as Wentow waters, it is a side water of the Upper Havel waterway . As part of the conservation area, Fuerstenberger forest and lake area the Great Wentowsee to hear Uckermark Lakes nature reserve .
