Marienthal has been part of the town of Zehdenick in the Brandenburg district of Oberhavel since October 26, 2003 . The population was 443 in 2003.

Marienthal formed an exclave of the rule of Ruppin and later of the district of Ruppin until it came to the new district of Templin in 1817 .

Because of its location on the Großer Wentowsee and the Wentow Canal , which was built in 1732 and expanded in 1816 , Marienthal was important for inland navigation in the past . The boatmen's association founded in 1842 and still in existence testifies to this. For 1861 24 ship owners with 24 sailing ships and 27 crews are mentioned.
