The Root Glacier is a 22.4 km long left tributary glacier of the Kennicott Glacier in the Wrangell Mountains in Alaska ( USA ).
The root glacier's nutrient area is on the southern flank of Regal Mountain . Below the steep section of the Stairway Icefall , the 1.9 km wide Root Glacier flows another 14 km south before it meets the Kennicott Glacier.
The glacier was named in 1899 after Elihu Root (1845–1937), Secretary of War and later Secretary of State of the United States.
