The Kennicott Glacier is a 35 km long valley glaciers in the Wrangell Mountains in Alaska ( USA ). The glacier is named after Robert Kennicott , who led the Western Union Telegraph Expedition in 1865 .
The breeding ground of the Kennicott Glacier is between the eastern summit of Mount Blackburn in the west and the Atna Peaks in the east. From there it flows mainly in a south-southeast direction down the valley. The most important tributary glaciers are Gates Glacier and Root Glacier , both joining from the left. The Kennicott Glacier ends at the village of McCarthy at an altitude of about 450 m . The water flows over the 8 km long Kennicott River to the Nizina River .
