Rosa Friess (born November 7, 1916 in Cologne , † December 31, 2007 in Marburg ) was a German doctor and painter .

Life

Rosa Friess graduated from the Elisabeth School in Marburg with a degree in medicine with a doctorate. Together with her husband, she then ran a general medical practice in Marburg. After reaching the age limit, she was exclusively active as an artist.

Her talent for painting was recognized and promoted early on. Thanks to an expert opinion by the Marburg art historian Richard Hamann , in 1943 she was able to purchase oil paints , which were in short supply at the time. In addition to her work as a doctor, she regularly painted numerous landscapes, portraits and still lifes. A catalog from 2004 documents 160 pictures.

She was particularly interested in the representation of unadulterated nature. In the course of the decades numerous pictures were created, the natural beauty of which has since fallen victim to civilization. These pictures were largely painted in the great outdoors and therefore have a sketchy freshness that shows a stylistic relationship to the style of the painter Franz Frank , with whom Rosa Friess had a close friendship and working relationship.

With increasing age, portraits became the focus of her work, which was shown in several exhibitions in Marburg. She had numerous pictures auctioned for the benefit of the Marburg University Museum.
