Rosa María Crespo Justiniani de Britton (born July 28, 1936 in Panama City - † July 16, 2019 ) was a doctor and writer from Panama who specialized in obstetrics and oncology .

biography

Britton's father was Cuban and her mother was from Panama. She attended school in her hometown and completed her school days in Havana, Cuba. She then studied gynecology and oncology at the University of Madrid and later switched to these subjects at the Kingston Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn (New York).

Since 1973 she lived in her hometown Panama City. In addition to her work as a doctor, director of the national oncological institute at the Santo Tomás Hospital in Panama City, a pioneer of modern legislation for sexual and reproductive health and a functionary of medical associations, she also made a name for herself as a writer.

She won the Ricardo Miró Prize four times .

She also gained notoriety in her fight for human rights .

Rosa María Britton died at the age of 82 as a result of breast pleurisy and respiratory problems.
