Rosalie et Léontine vont au théâtre , also Rosalie et Léontine au théâtre , is a fragmentary French silent film comedy by Roméo Bosetti from 1911.

action

Rosalie and Léontine have dressed up and go to the Les Capucines theater full of joy, where they want to see the play La Fugitive . They reach their seats and are initially impressed by the two distinguished gentlemen in front of them - both are bald and Rosalie and Léontine have fun patting both of them on the head.

The play begins and one man is stabbed to death by another with a saber. Rosalie and Léontine follow the play enthusiastically, laugh out loud and disturb the other audience with shouts of bravo. Finally the two women are pelted with eggs from the upper echelons. The mistress appears on the stage, sees her deceased husband and stabs herself. Rosalie and Léontine are now in tears and wring their wet handkerchiefs over the audience in front of them, crying loudly. Eventually both are thrown out of the theater by a police officer.

production

Rosalie et Léontine vont au théâtre was part of the popular Rosalie series, which was created from 1911 at Pathé Comica in Nice and Pathé Frères in Paris and comprised more than 30 short films. The main role of Rosalie was played by Sarah Duhamel , who is considered one of the first film comedians in France. The identity of the woman named in the film “Léontine”, who became the leading actress in a series of over 20 films of the same name, has not yet been clarified. Rosalie et Léontine vont au théâtre premiered on June 23, 1911.

Rosalie et Léontine vont au théâtre is preserved in a 91-meter-long copy in the National Film and Television Archive in London . Another copy is in the Filmarchiv Austria in Vienna. The original length of the film was 100 meters.
