Rose Hip Rose ( Japanese ロ ー ズ ヒ ッ プ ロ ー ズ , rozu hippu rozu ) is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Tōru Fujisawa , who is best known for his great teacher Onizuka . The manga tells the story of a special special unit and is aimed primarily at an adult, male readership, so it can be assigned to his genre.

Rose Hip Rose , which contains " fan service " and violence scenes, was continued through Magnum Rose Hip ; the stories appeared together in four volumes. In addition, the series Rose Hip Zero came out later, which tells the story.

action

The high school student Shohei Aiba lives in Tokyo . He makes fun of looking at girls under the skirt and taking photos of them and then posting them on the Internet. Shohei has little prospects for the future.

His life changes suddenly when he tries to take a picture of the seventeen-year-old student Kasumi Asakura. The girl looks through him and takes the cell phone's memory card away from him. She begins to interfere with his life and mess it up. So she not only becomes the new classmate in his class, but also moves into the same house as Shohei. She got very good grades in school, is an absolute ace at sports, and can even jump trains. That's why Aiba soon began to be interested in the girl with the rose tattoo on her thigh.

A little later he witnessed a bank robbery and hostage-taking. He also sees a special police officer named Rose Hip put an end to this robbery very quickly. When he later meets Rose Hip again in search of Asakura and falls into the hands of a dangerous killer, he begins to suspect that Asakura and Rose Hip could be the same person.

Publications

Rose Hip Rose was published in Japan from November 2002 to 2003 in individual chapters in the manga magazine Young Magazine Uppers . A sequel was later released under the title Magnum Rose Hip. The Kōdansha publishing house brought out the chapters of the first series and the sequel in four edited volumes.

The manga was also published in the United States, Hong Kong, South Korea, France, and Germany. The German translation in four edited volumes was published by Egmont Manga & Anime from January 2007 to September 2009 .

reception

The Animania writes, "Fans of brutal crime thriller action and sexy girls paired with a good note of comedy will [...] be completely satisfied". Fujiwara's “unmistakable character design”, unchanged from the previously created Great Teacher Onizuka , is also convincing - especially in battle scenes. On the other hand, the plot remains rather too everyday and the characters disappointingly superficial.
