Rose McGrew
Rose Elizabeth McGrew , also known in the German-speaking countries as Rose Mac Grew or Mac-Grew (born April 5, 1875 in Ottumwa , † March 14, 1956 in Eugene ) was an American opera singer ( soprano ) and singing teacher.
Life
McGrew was trained in Dresden for the coloratura subject and then engaged at the court theater in Schwerin , where she made her debut on December 15, 1899 as "Margarethe von Valois" in Huguenots . She became known in contemporary sources for the roles of "Frau Fluth", "Philine", "Hansel", "Regiment's daughter", "Baroness" in "Wildschütz" and "Madame Courtier" in "The attack".
The last known performance in Europe was on September 28, 1912 at the Vienna State Opera . After a trip to the United States in 1913, she was unable to return to Germany because of the approaching World War I. In the United States she worked as a singing teacher until 1941.
McGrew was divorced from Alexander Camillo Jacques Schönberg. She had three daughters with him.
