Rosemarie Bauer (politician)

Rosemarie Bauer (born July 15, 1944 in Roggendorf near Melk , Lower Austria ) is a former Austrian politician of the ÖVP , who made a name for herself primarily in education, family and women's politics .

Life

After graduating from a vocational secondary school, Rosemarie Bauer studied pedagogy . From 1965–81 she worked as a technical college teacher and from 1981 as the school director . After a few years as city councilor of Hollabrunn , she became deputy to the regional party chairman of the ÖVP Lower Austria around 1975 . The Austrian Women's Movement elected her country director in 1983 and general secretary in 1984. 1983-85 she represented Lower Austria in the Federal Council .

From 1985 to 2001, Bauer was a member of the National Council and a member of numerous committees; For many years she also worked as secretary of the National Council. Since 1987 in the management of the Austrian Women's Movement, she was its federal director from 1991 until 1998.

In the middle of 2001 the parliament elected her for six years as Ombudsman , where she was responsible for taxes, agriculture and forestry at the federal level, as well as for nature and environmental protection, science and student funding. In July 2007 she was succeeded by Maria Fekter .

In September 2007, Bauer was awarded the Great Silver Decoration on Ribbon by the Federal President for her services to the Republic of Austria. NR President Barbara Prammer (SPÖ) praised Bauer's commitment to women's issues and the support from their families; also as chairwoman of the teaching committee or as a key protagonist in the equal treatment and family committee, she had a wide range of effects, which later also benefited the institution of the ombudsman.
Rosemarie Bauer sees u. a. the child benefits as an important milestone of its activity and the crediting of child-rearing to the pension. For the envisaged state reform, she recalls the proposals made by the Ombudsman for a real civil society .
