Rosina Wachtmeister
Rosina Wachtmeister (born January 7, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian visual artist .
She grew up on the Upper Austrian Attersee and moved to Brazil at the age of 14 . In Porto Alegre she attended an art school where she studied sculpture and stage design . She quickly became internationally known through numerous exhibitions.
In 1974 Wachtmeister returned to Europe; today she lives in Capena near Rome .
As a representative of contemporary naive art , she prefers romantic motifs and depictions of cats painted in a characteristic style. Her pictures are widespread on posters and everyday objects and successfully serve mass tastes. The ceramic figures produced and sold by the porcelain manufacturer Goebel based on their motifs (like the similarly popular Hummel figures) are purchased by collectors all over the world.
Wachtmeister's early work is little known in Germany. Carved dolls that she made in Brazil are exhibited in the International Youth Library in Blutenburg Castle in Munich.
