Rosmarie Frick

Rosmarie Frick (born December 26, 1949 in Bazenheid ) is a Swiss nurse and lecturer in microsurgery at the University Hospital Zurich .

Life

She grew up as a farmer's daughter in Oberbüren and decided to become a nurse when her parents had to sell their farm. In 1967/68 she did an apprenticeship at the Viktoriaspital in Bern and then went on to work at the hospital in Flawil . At this time, neurosurgery in Zurich made headlines around the world and Gazi Yaşargil in particular was already performing bypass operations on cerebral vessels to treat strokes.

Rosmarie Frick joined Gazi Yaşargil's team and learned to use neurosurgery without the appropriate training. She worked in various hospitals, including those in Zurich, Olten and Bern. From 1979 to 2013 Frick taught neurosurgical microsurgery at the University Hospital Zurich. In her 40-year career, she has also taught in countries such as Taiwan , China , Italy , TurkeyPakistan and Poland . She has taught thousands of young surgeons, including many vascular surgeons .

In 2017 she received an honorary doctorate from Yeditepe Üniversitesi in Istanbul . Her story was documented by SRF in the television program Reporter in 2018 .
