Rosscarbery (also Ross Carbery or Roscarbery ; Irish Ros Ó gCairbre ) is a country town in County Cork in Ireland with 490 inhabitants (Census 2016). It is located on an estuary on the Celtic Sea .
Rosscarbery is known for the abandoned Ross Carbery monastery , the monastery school there and the St. Fachtna cathedral . The Catholic diocese of Ross is named after Rosscarbery, which was combined with the diocese of Cork to form the diocese of Cork and Ross in 1958 .
