The CV-Afrika-Hilfe e. V. is an association closely related to the Cartell Association of Catholic German Student Associations (CV), but despite its name it is not an organ or association of the Cartell Association. Nevertheless, a strong bond has shaped the cooperation between the CV and CV-Afrika-Hilfe since it was founded on January 6, 1972 in Cologne . As central, self-set goals according to The association's statutes define the implementation and promotion of sustainable projects in Africa, with the emphasis on helping people to help themselves. Since 2005, there has been an increase in major projects and increased cooperation with government agencies in Germany ( BMZ ) and in the African project states.

Association and corporation

As an association, according to the statutes, it is subdivided into the active members of the board and the sponsorship group. As a corporation, it is exempt from corporation tax according to Section 5 (1) No. 9 KStG and from trade tax according to Section 3 No. 6 GewStH because it serves exclusively and directly tax-privileged purposes within the meaning of Section 3 51 ff. AO . The issuing of a donation seal by non-governmental third parties has so far not been attempted by the board of the CV-Afrika-Aid, as a detailed report is presented at the annual Cartel meeting.

As a corporation, the association promotes the following goals, which are recognized as charitable purposes:

  • Promotion of the public health system, in particular the "fight against" epidemics and epidemic-like diseases, also through hospitals i. S. d. Section 67 (Section 52 Paragraph 2 Sentence 1 No. 3 AO)
  • Promotion of adult education and vocational training including student aid (Section 52, Paragraph 2, Clause 1, No. 07 AO)

The chairman Grevelding summarized this legal formulation with the words " Help for self-help in matters of health care and education", whereby in the field of culture and knowledge transfer he is required in lectures and interviews to give a differentiated image of Africa, since in his opinion black and white Compare the successes that Africa has to show that are withheld.

history

The association was founded on January 6, 1972, the African day of the Catholic Church, by the then CV pastor and student pastor Edmund Dillinger and a group of interested members of the Cartell Association of Catholic German student associations from the Cologne area. The foundation was preceded by a formative experience for the student pastor in a Cameroonian leprosy ward; Since he wanted to fight against this disease and, above all, to eliminate the sometimes inhumane conditions in the ward there, he was dependent on third-party funding and personal help.

In the years that followed, further projects were added, with the project partners being the local contacts for the Catholic Church in the founding phase. The medical projects in the Diocese of Mbalmayo and the Archdiocese of Yaoundé have been supplemented by study grants. A hospital project was funded in Burkina Faso , and the two orphanage projects in Lomé and Pagala (Atakpamé diocese) in Togo , and water pipes and water towers were added. In Nigeria , the association built a kindergarten in the Orlu diocese , and the youth center was expanded in the Yamousoukro diocese ( Ivory Coast ). Several craft schools were set up in Liberia , social workers were trained and help was provided for the Ganta leprosy center. In Zaire , the water supply of a boarding school was implemented in the diocese of Boma and a social center was built in the diocese of Isiro.

The period up to 2005 was marked by a large number of projects of all sizes. With the change of the board of directors, deacon Hans Gerd Grevelding succeeded the outgoing pastor Edmund Dillinger as new chairman, the area of activity shifted visibly more to the implementation of larger projects. As of 2015, several hundred projects in Africa were implemented or implemented by CV-Afrika-Hilfe . promoted.

At the 129th Cartell Assembly in 2015, the conclusion of the association's activity was that in around 40 years more than 400 projects have been implemented in more than 20 countries in Africa, on a voluntary basis and without administrative expenses, and a little more than 2.2 million euros in donations without Third-party funding and primarily from members from the Cartell Association. The annual donation volumes and investments in the first two decades can be described as rather modest. An increase has been noticeable since the 1990s and with the start of large-scale project planning from 2005 a significant increase can be assumed. Around 1.5 million euros have flowed since 2005, not including third-party funding.

Protectors

The appointment of a church protector was intended to document “the solidarity with the Catholic Church” and, as can be seen from other aid organizations , was not necessary for structural reasons.

Paul Etoga Medal

Bishop Paul Etoga medal, both sides

The first winner of the medal, who also bears the name of the medal, was Bishop Paul Etoga from the diocese of Mbalmayo in Cameroon. Paul Etoga was the first black African bishop of all French-speaking countries in Africa. Under his leadership, the Petit Séminaire Saint Paul was built with financial support from CV-Afrika-Hilfe and through the experiences in the leprosy station in Mbalmayo he became a close friend of the founder and chairman of CV-Afrika-Hilfe Dillinger Der The second recipient of the Paul Etoga Medal in 2005 was the Vicar General of the Diocese of Enugu in Nigeria, Prelate Obiora Ike , at that time Caritas Director in the Diocese of Enugu. The Paul Etoga Medal was occasionally awarded to people who have made a contribution to CV Africa aid. The bronze medals were designed and implemented by the Cologne artist Egino Weinert . They have a diameter of 68.50 mm and a weight of around 130 grams. The Paul Etoga Medal was awarded until 2015.

Paul Etoga stele

Paul-Etoga-Stele, award number 2, awarded in 2016 by the board of the CV-Afrika-Hilfe e. V.

On May 28, 2016, the CXXX. Cartel meeting announced the end of the Paul Etoga Medal, still donated by the association's founder Edmund Dillinger. It was replaced with the award of the 1st Paul Etoga stele to the CV secretary Richard Weiskorn as a new award of the association. At the beginning of 2015, and in accordance with the board of directors' resolutions of September 27, 2015 and February 27, 2016, the stele is expressly awarded to a maximum of two people per year and only with a previous unanimous board decision. An annual award is not mandatory. The stele is numbered and individually designed one-offs.

Prize winners: Richard Weiskorn (2015), Alexander Kirsch (2016), Otfried Schneider (2018)

Establishment of the first African CV connection

Band of the KAV Rheno-Fua-Ndem Dschang in the CV
Band of the KAV Rheno-Fua-Ndem Dschang in the CV; Fuxenband

At the instigation of CV-Afrika-Hilfe, the KAV Rheno-Fua-Ndem , abbreviation and circle RFN, was founded in 2008 in cooperation with the KDStV Rheno-Baltia Cologne at the University of Dschang in Cameroon . This first African connection with typical German student union customs was accepted into the Cartell Association in 2009. Since then, it has been the CV's first connection on African soil; another KAV connection in Ghana was initiated by CV-Africa-Aid and is in the process of being set up. The part of the name “Fua Ndem” in the full connection name KAV Rheno-Fua-Ndem zu Dschang (Cameroon) in the CV means something like “Chief Gott” and comes from a waterfall in Cameroon. The term chief is not translated into German here, as neither chief, mayor nor chief would be correct as a translation of this title of an African village community. It is not a state title, but a traditional title for the board of a village community.

Receptions

In addition to its own presentations in the form of flyers, own publications in magazines and letters to members, the work of the association has been picked up and presented several times in recent years by Domradio Köln , the association magazine of the Cartellverband Academia , the press of the Archdiocese of Cologne and Trier and the local press in some federal states . In addition to the presentation of the projects in the African press on site, the wall writings such as at the Institute Saint Joseph d'Adoukowoe, the naming of the Sports Center at the Archbishop Kiwanuka Secondary School Kitovu, Uganda, in "CV Africa Help Sports Arena", in short "CV Sportarena", one of the most important honors from the club's point of view.

The association's work was also taken up during various campaigns and in the local press through calls for donations from third parties. Examples for this are:

  • The “Die Domstädter” music train donated the collection of the “English / German mess with Cologne and Scottish tones”, implemented in cooperation, to the education and health projects of CV-Afrika-Hilfe
  • Participation of the CV suburb Mannheim / Heidelberg for the CV-Afrika-Hilfe in the SAS half marathon of the TSG 78 Heidelberg on March 26th 2015 in Heidelberg
  • Participation of Tobias Pancratz in the CV-Africa-Dress at the Münster-Marathon in September 2010
  • Fundraising campaigns for flying classrooms for Cameroon / Ghana
  • Support of the 1st African Catholic Day in North Rhine-Westphalia

For the coordination in Cameroon, Chief Forbellah Charles Morfaw was awarded the Cameroonian Cross of Merit in the course of the project measures for the Rainbow School project and the electrification and water supply of the village of Fontem. Afutendem Lucas Nkwetta was awarded the Knight of the Cameroon Order of Merit for the BMZ expansion stages in Mbindia.

Music productions

In Germany, the record series "Cameroon Church Music" was implemented as a cultural exchange project between Cameroon and Germany by the association from 1976 to the end of the 1980s. With the switch to music CDs in the 1990s, both the recordings and the production of the CDs were relocated to Ghana and Cameroon and only the distribution in Germany was provided by CV-Afrika-Hilfe.

The first record production in 1976, followed by a bilingual version in 1979, was entitled African Christmas: Jesu Krist abyalie a Bethlehem; Christmas mass from the Rosary Cathedral in Mbalmayo, Cameroon . Just like the praise of God from Yaounde: musica sacra Kamerunensis , published in 1978 , the blank was implemented by Hoppe and Werry, the further (re-) production and distribution were carried out by CV-Afrika-Hilfe itself. The songs of the two first productions were in the national language Sung Ewondo.

The record series were given up in the 1990s in favor of CD productions, u. a. because you no longer had to rely on third parties for production. The last CD project so far from 2009 Gloire à toi seigneur - dévise: garde moi mon seigneur was a co-production with Abbé Eleutére and the independent label verte (PureAfrican Green) under production and distribution by the association Project planning for two independent labels that still exist today in Ghana and Cameroon.

2016 began with the Easter fair 2016 "MISSA KAMERUN - KRISTUS AKUI YA A SON ALLELUIA 2016" in Mbalmayo (Cameroon), the pieces of music from the 1970/80 / 90s were converted into MP3 files, dubbed and from 2017 on again by the CV Africa aid expelled. In addition, a number of African pieces of music were re-recorded with a Ghanaian independent label. The first song was offered to donors as a free download in the 2016 Christmas fundraising collection.
