The Rosshäusertunnel is a double-track railway tunnel on the Bern – Neuchâtel line in Switzerland . It was built in connection with the expansion of the line to double lane parallel to an old tunnel that was about half as long and could not be expanded and was inaugurated in August 2018. The single-lane old tunnel was taken out of service, but not removed, only closed with gates. The length of the new tunnel is 1910 meters and it can be driven at speeds of up to 160 km / h (old tunnel: 90 km / h).
location
The tunnel lies under the southern edge of the village of Rosshäuser , which belongs to the municipality of Mühleberg . The previous route, which lies north of Rosshäuser, has been repealed and renatured.
construction
The construction installation began on September 10, 2012, the first blasting took place on May 6, 2013. According to the plan, the tunnel was to cost 192.5 million francs.
The tunnel was first excavated by mining . After a fatal accident and due to the geological conditions, the tunneling method was changed in January 2014 and a pipe umbrella was used. This resulted in a construction delay of 18 months and an increase in the cost of construction by CHF 65 million. after yourself.
On June 2, 2015, the dome breached 181 m west of the center of the tunnel. The opening took place on August 25, 2018.
business
Two months after the opening of the new tunnel, BLS also put the second track into operation on October 26, 2018 as planned. Since the timetable change on December 9, 2018, Riedbach has been served by the S5 and S52 lines every hour, which results in every half hour; the Ferenbalm-Gurbrü stop, previously served by the S5, will be closed for this purpose.
