The Rødekro – Aabenraa (German: Rothenkrug – Aabenraa ) railway is a seven-kilometer-long, single-track line that has been connected to the Aabenraa by the Nordschleswigschen Eisenbahngesellschaft from the Nordschleswigsche Weiche (today: Flensburg Weiche) at Flensburg to Rothenkrug and Wojens since September 12, 1868 built Sønderjyske Længdebane connects.

history

The line was commissioned by the Schleswig Railroad Company and built by Peto, Brassey and Betts . After Schleswig's loss in the Prussian-Danish War , ownership of the line was transferred to the Altona-Kieler Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft on January 1, 1870 , which in turn was taken over by the Prussian State Railways on January 1, 1887 .

The almost one kilometer long line to Apenrader Hafen was put into operation on June 12, 1889.

After the First World War and the referendum in Schleswig , Denmark took over the route, so that the Danish State Railways have been the owners since June 1, 1920 .

Plans for a coastal railway that would connect the East Schleswig merchant towns were never realized due to the two world wars. A number of narrow-gauge railways ran from Aabenraa and operated the Apenrader Kreisbahn (later: Åbenrå District Jernbaner (AAAJ)).

The line was designed for 22.5 tons of axle pressure and had three secured and four unsecured level crossings in its course .

Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1971, until 2003 a historic steam locomotive was still running between Rødekro and Aabenraa during Advent. After that, this traffic was also stopped because the DSB no longer maintained the line.

Tinglev – Tønder Veteranjernbane

The Museum Railway Association was founded on March 13, 1993 in Tønder as Tinglev – Tønder Veteranjernbane (TTVJ) and had its collectibles in the old engine shed in Tønder. In 1999 the company moved to Aabenraa as the area in Tønder was used for other purposes. At the same time the name was changed to Åbenrå Veteranbane (AaV).

Åbenrå veterans

The Åbenrå Veteranbane Association (AaV) opened the museum on August 16, 1999.

In 1996 the motor car M3 (T3) was acquired by NVAG in Niebüll . This made it possible to take your own museum trips on various routes, mainly on the Tønder – Tinglev railway line .

When the Rødekro – Aabenraa line was closed and a general inspection was due, the railcar was sold to the Deutsche Regionalisenbahn in autumn 2005 .

Since the summer of 2006, the museum railway has been offering handcar rides on the Aabenraa railway to Ulvekule .
