Rostock Switzerland
The Rostock Switzerland is a terminal moraine and part of the nature reserve Kösterbeck . It is located southeast of Rostock in the Rostock district .
geography
Most of the Rostock Switzerland lies in the area of the municipality of Roggentin . For the coastal location, the area is very hilly. Hence the name Rostock Switzerland comes from. The Kösterbeck is a small river that runs in a deep cut and makes the height differences appear particularly pronounced. The catchment area of the Kösterbeck includes contiguous swamp forests as well as species-rich spring moors, brook reeds and wet meadows. The valley of the Kösterbeck is two meters above sea level, the highest point is 66 meters high. She has several times changed their names: From the period before 1900 the name is Bäukenbarg (Buchenberg) narrated the German Reich was Kaiserberg and since DDR -times Friendship height called.
Settlement
This area was already densely populated in Slavic times (800–1000). A well-preserved Slavic rampart near Fresendorf (Schlossberg) and a neighboring barrow testify to this . This area has been largely free of forests since the end of the Middle Ages and has been used as pasture for centuries. Continuous grazing kept the landscape open. There was a socialization of predominantly light and warmth, drought-loving and pasture-resistant plant species and a correspondingly adapted animal world. Today the Roggentin districts of Unterkösterbeck (in the valley of the Kösterbeck), Oberkösterbeck, Fresendorf and the Dummerstorf district of Beselin lie on the edge of the area .
Others
In the past, you could watch from a lookout tower from Rostock and its surroundings, on nice days even as far as Warnemünde. The northernmost ski lift in the GDR used to be in Rostock Switzerland. Remains of the drag lift can still be found between Unterkösterbeck and Beselin. In the field of Rostock Switzerland the now rare grow Trollblumen .
