The rust-armored catfish ( Corydoras rabauti ) is a freshwater ornamental fish from the genus Corydoras , which is native to Peruvian waters. The peaceful schooling fish grows up to 5 cm and is considered by many enthusiasts to be one of the most beautiful armored catfish species due to its sometimes very intense red-brown color. Until the final color is reached, the young change their youthful dress.
Like most armored catfish, it prefers to stay in the lower water regions , but as an intestinal breathers it needs free access to the water surface. If it is kept in captivity, the aquarium should therefore not have a closed floating plant cover. In addition, the rust-armored catfish loves soft, sandy areas of the ground where it can rummage through with its barbels and search for food. If it is kept in aquariums , it should also find adequate hiding places.
