from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roswitha Eberl (born June 5, 1958 in Wismar ), today Krugmann , is a former German canoeist .

Eberl started out as a swimmer at a young age and was an enthusiastic figure skater before moving to the newly formed canoe warehouse at SC Empor Rostock at the age of 13 .

In 1978, Eberl, trained by Horst Mühlberg, won her first championship title in the GDR , which she followed with gold medals in single and four-person kayaks at the World Championships in Belgrade . She was able to defend both titles a year later in Duisburg. In 1980, the double double world champion could not prevail in internal elimination races against Carsta Genaus and only drove to the Olympic Games in Moscow as a substitute starter . In the two following years Eberl won two more world championship titles in the four-person kayak.

After her active career as a competitive athlete, Eberl mainly trained as a long-distance runner and, as such, took part in various charity runs long after her career ended, and in 2008 organized the first coast tour of hope .
